Bombshell Beauty: Tarte "Shape Tape Foundation" Fail
Why do some beauty brands continue to disregard women of color?
I am a woman who enjoys buying makeup, but one of the major issues I face as a woman of color is finding a foundation that matches my complexion. The latest company to let me know they don't really care much about women who aren't "fare" is Tarte Cosmetics with the launch of their "Shape Tape Foundation". I watched review after review on You Tube from some of my favorite beauty gurus who had strong feelings about the flop launch of this product. It's upsetting to know not only did they completely ignore comments from people who support their business by closing IG comments (Side-eye). The company put out a bogus statement saying there is "no excuse for the lack of diversity" and promised to "do better". Sure, Jan.
It would've been better if they said "we don't know what we're doing and quite frankly we didn't think much about women of color when working on the foundation." It's 2018 companies like MAC, Makeup For Ever, and my beloved Fenty Beauty (which launched a few months ago) have a variety of shades for all women to choose from. Tarte isn't new to the beauty game and have worked with women of color making it even more of a slap in the face. I get that it's only makeup, but I think this is unacceptable and don't appreciate them treating women of color like they're second best.
I wanted to get a palette they collaborated with one of my favorite MUA's on, but this left a sour taste in my mouth and many women of all hues around the world. Tarte, you get an F for this epic fail of a launch since you claim to know better it's time to show and prove.
